So this Chinese professor is now detained because he did some gene-editing experiments with human embryo.

Pro-choicers will argue "The reason making a mutant freak baby is bad, but killing that same baby is okay, is because a mutant freak baby will eventually be born. A dead baby will not be born. And it's only bad to hurt those who will be born."

That's the mistake a lot of pro-choicers are making, I think. Assuming pro-lifers are pro-life because they only care about the baby that could "potentially" be. Pro-lifers don't hate abortion because someday that fetus might become a baby, and babies are too sophisticated/human an organism to ethically kill. Pro-lifers hate abortion because that fetus, right now, is sophisticated/human enough that you shouldn't kill it. That's why abortion legislation is based around things like "When can it feel pain? When does its heart beat?" And other factors that determine whether or not the organism is just a meaningless clump of cells, or developed enough that it's close enough to human that killing it would be "cruelty to a person."
