The U.S. higher education system is fucked, retarded chads/stacies can get into top universities easily by playing sports, doing pointless social activism, or something of no worth to society. I hope Oxford accepts me JFL, otherwise I'll end up at some second-rate Ivy League full of retards on athletic scholarships. I'm not sure whether to apply for PPE or Chemistry. On one hand I already have experience in research and have published some papers, but on the other hand, it'd take a lot of schooling to make any real money in the field. If I do PPE I might have a chance at doing something substantive, but that discipline is likely full of old-money chads. @PPEcel what's your experience?

That is true of many schools in the U.S. higher education system. You can still find many intelligent, deserving students at elite institutions, but you can't deny that athletes and legacies get a free pass in a pretty unfair manner. I went to an American boarding school and do not regret choosing the UK over an Ivy League school.

I hope Oxford accepts me JFL, otherwise I'll end up at some second-rate Ivy League full of retards on athletic scholarships. I'm not sure whether to apply for PPE or Chemistry.

It's actually not that bad, a vast majority of students are indeed from middle- or upper-middle-class backgrounds, but it's not as jam-packed with hyper-wealthy old-money Chads as is commonly portrayed in the media. It's a racially diverse crowd with a large number of international students.

I highly recommend that you choose whatever interests you the most. If you don't like what you're studying, it's going to be an extremely tedious, depressing experience.

When you applied, did you do so under the US entrance requirements or the HK requirements? The basic US requirements are pretty low imho, but I've heard mixed opinions on whether exceeding those requirements helps your case for admission. Some on reddit told me that a 1600 won't help your case any more than a 1470, but others told me it would.

I applied under the U.S. entrance requirements because I'd already taken 10 AP exams in the first three years of high school and had a near-perfect SAT score.

But for Oxbridge, it's not really an issue. I mean, a 1600 SAT won't hurt your case, but your personal statement, entrance exam (if any), written work (if any), and interview (if invited) are far more important. Almost everyone who applies has excellent grades to begin with, so they have their own in-house mechanisms to separate the wheat from the chaff.
