That creepypasta is especially good in the narrative and sound-effect department; it's pretty fucking accurate to how a bad trip is like auditorily and mentally speaking.

Holy shit, I thought I'd never see that movie mentioned in the wild. The original Japanese version fucked with me so bad that I was shocked so few people heard about it. The whole movie just has this terrifyingly quiet loneliness to it, like when you furiously masturbate at 3AM in the dark to midget porn and finish into your gym socks, and then you just sit there, alone in your bedroom, suddenly aware of the smallness of your world. Kinda sad the J-horror is basically viewed as The Ring and The Grudge.
If you haven't seen it yet, look up Cure (1997). Different kind of atmosphere, but still weird and creepy as fuck.

The Strangers is the scariest movie I have ever seen. It may be something to do with the fact that I was 18 when I watched it and at that point I wasn't accustomed to watching horror movies, but it was truly terrifying. I can so vividly remember sitting in the cinema, the feeling of absolute dread throughout my body, feeling the need to look away but being unable to do so.

I also live alone and enjoy watching horror movies on my TV in the dark - might put one on shortly in fact.
