If you mean Joe Louis...yes, he did lose the first fight to Max Schmeling, a German boxer and ex heavyweight champion of the world in 1936 by being knocked out in the 12th round. However, in the rematch in 1938, Joe Louis avenged that loss by KO'ing Max Schmeling at 2:06 of the first round. Despite being knocked out in the first fight, Joe Louis was a 3-1 favorite to win the rematch.
