Confidence is a contrived goalposting, and it's often used because if you're asking a question in the first place you're not confident. But even if you are confident, and you didn't get laid anyway, and you can give verifiable evidence you showed confidence to the girl, the pressure is so thick that they will often lashback.
Even though if they were giving information, and not just trying to give you something that is palliating, not to irritate them, then there would be no pressure-cooker temper behind any of their responses.
