It's a CGI dog? Technology has moved on a bit since Jurassic Park you know. They can't quite 100% do a human yet though.

Because dogs are ugly. It's not hard to CGI ugly creatures. Orcs? Gollum? You also mention things like Jurassic Park and Hulk in Marvel and other things.
Ugly things are easy to CGI.
It's the 'uncanny valley' effect you can get away with an animal or mythical creature being 'slightly off' because your brain will buy into it. If a person is 'slightly off' your brain automatically knows something isn't quite right and raises an alarm.
