HIGHLAND COUNTY, Ohio — A manhunt is underway for a Hillsboro man who escaped a courtroom Tuesday.

34-year-old Nickolaus Garrison was sentenced to six months in jail for a meth possession charge.

Video from inside the Highland County Courthouse shows Garrison bolting outside the room as he is taken into custody.

Sheriff Donnie Barrera said he broke free from the deputies.

Barrera said deputy Ben Reno chased after Garrison into the courthouse hallway.

Video shows him dramatically diving over a railing and falling down a set of stairs headfirst in an attempt to try and catch him.

Garrison made it out of the courthouse and took off, but Reno didn’t. He was taken to the hospital with broken ribs and a minor concussion.

He is now back home recovering.

Garrison remains on the run.

It's called a manhunt because police mostly go after men and not women tbh

Some 1000 years ago, a language called Anglo-Saxon or Old English was used on the islands of present England and Scotland. It was spoken & written down by the dominant English island tribes of the late first millennium AD. Unlike modern English, Anglo-Saxon had two words that could mean male.
  1. mann, which could also mean “humans” and
  2. wæpemann which meant “person with a weapon and/or a penis” and this referred specifically to males.
“Mann” is a word categorized as autohyponym i.e., “a word which can mean both a member of a category and a member of one of its subcategories”. But with due course of time, modern English took over and the word “mann” seemed to be more masculine than a gender neutral word.

Therefore, now some authors use the word “humanity” over mankind to sound more gender neutral. For general knowledge, “wifmann” was the word for “woman” at that time and it is the root word for “wife or woman”.

But I think the context of words matters the most and not their etymological structure otherwise to sound gender neutral, Nelson Mandela will have to be renamed to Nelbaby Persondela.
