Why did this lioness kill the father of her cubs?
We ask the experts to share their theories on why a lioness killed her zoo companion of eight years.
www.bbc.com
Ritu Prasad said:A lioness at a US zoo has killed the father of her three cubs in their pen
pair had lived in the same enclosure at Indianapolis Zoo for eight years
there had never been any unusual aggression between the pair before the attack
Craig Packer said:In the wild, male lions "totally dominate" lionesses. Nyack had been hand-reared, which possibly made him more vulnerable.
Zuri was more dominant than a typical female.
If it was a result of discordant personalities, maybe that's a risk factor that should be considered
Zuri attacked Nyack twice: the first time he ran off and returned behaving very submissively, only for her to attack him again.
there's no way we can say what caused this to happen
feelsbadman, I know we're normally against human foids fucking male animals but I would make an exception for Nyack poor guy.Paul Funston said:One possibility is that Zuri, an attentive and protective mother, became fearful of Nyack, which led to the fight.
Zuri's natural instincts could have taken over at that point, so she ended up killing him.
Even if animals are calm or seem to be calm, it doesn't mean that there aren't underlying tensions
That's one thing I love about lions. You don't quite know exactly what's going to happen in a particular scenario
feels like a window into foid psychology here: because he was hand-reared and didn't become a chad rapist, Zuri always detested him for being high-inhib and kept attacking him as shit-tests so he would rape her but he never did so finally she just offed him so they would replace him with a chad lion. She didn't care that this orphaned her kids: she would let whatever new lion male came along eat her kids. She now hates her children because they lack gigachad rapist DNA and deserve to die.
