I was going to post this as a response in another thread, but it got so long that I decided to copy it down here instead of have it be a response. It kind of turned into a rambling effortpost as I thought of more and more examples. This isn't meant to "pwn" the person I was responding to, rather just point out some of my thoughts on the issue.

Ethnic culture. The modern west is only good at technology.

Based and Asuka-AVI pilled. But in response to your quote: IS the west good at technology? What has the west achieved technologically that isn't just dressing up technology that's already there? I'm genuinely curious. Everything seems to be in the digital world anyways, and that is what is often meant by "technology". We're starting to run into the limits of Moore's law, and exponential time algorithms seem to put a dent in the view that doubling processor speed in linear time is some sort of huge breakthrough. For end-users, tons of people are starting to realize that old 2010 ThinkPads do whatever they want with Linux, sans specialists that need to use Windows/Mac for some unicorn proprietary software. This just exposes the fact that the main difference between a laptop of yesterday and a laptop of today is basically the GPU and the ability to run photorealistic graphical games. But how much progress is that really? And some of the progress with computers, like encryption mathematics and cipher system cracking are just state secrets. The fucking British gov knew about RSA in 1975, and when RSA came out like a year or two later because MIT nerds independently rediscovered it.

Free software and privacy is getting absolutely BTFO'd, and the people who update the Linux kernel already put DRM faggotry in it and nobody gave a shit, because forking a new kernel is too inconvenient and too hard. People aren't even willing to fork the kernel to modify the obviously shitty DRM stuff out even though they have the full fucking kernel. Meanwhile, in 1990, some guy was willing to just make it from scratch when there was NOTHING for it and when an operating system running on it wouldn't be able to run 1% of the programs of big companies, they just had the will to do it. Stallman made an entire fucking operating system with jack shit when there was literally almost NO proprietary software, but now his efforts are starting to be in vain. The only distro taking a stand against it seems to be the hyper-autist Hyperbola distro, but at that point you might as well switch to BSD, which has it's own problems. Nobody is even willing to use Hyperbola or Parabola autistic distros because 1) their precious internet cards will stop working because those distros are so autistic that they don't even allow proprietary blobs to be loaded and 2) it doesn't matter if you have a non-free BIOS in the first place, so you have to be fucked to go through a shitload of trouble to buy a raspberry pi, rip open the computer, and try to follow the convoluted directions for flashing a coreboot BIOS onto your computer. Nobody has the will to do that anymore, let alone start something from scratch in the name of fundamental freedom. Terry Davis is considered a hero for being one of the last guys left who really made something from scratch even though it didn't have all of the gay programs that everybody loves, but there used to be tons of guys like him. But if you keep having to start from scratch to avoid corporate hegemony ruining freedoms, is that "progress"?

The US Gov's largest computer-tech branch is devoted to having huge data centers in Utah that gather people's communications, and NASA hasn't done fucking jack shit for years. Elon Musk's reusable rockets aren't even novel, NASA did it already (
View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39cjZTCay24
) back when NASA actually used to be based. The last human to walk on the moon is probably going to be gone within a decade. No manned missions to Mars, just stupid probes faffing around and collecting dust samples and everybody coping and pretending that it's important. NASA used to be based because it took a "safety third" philosophy, they knew that their mission was fucking SPACE TRAVEL, and that sometimes people DIE in pursuit of that mission. Now everybody is a pussy. Nobody will go to Mars because the first men on Mars may very, very well not come back.

And returning to my point about "technology" meaning "digital computer stuff". OK, if you went outside without your computer and just looked around, how would you tell it wasn't 1986? The differences in tech use are actually more superficial than they might appear. Different car designs maybe? How about this: what's the difference from 2010? Now it's REALLY hard to tell, because people from 2010 ALSO spent inordinate amounts of time in front of their computer. All of the "advances" seem to be related to some gadget being connected to the internet. Surprise surprise, the "advance" is just connecting more of your shit to the internet (which is the ACTUAL advance, but that achievement was already done, in about 1985, and everything on top of it is frankly trivial). But is this an "advance"? Now there's tons of things that can't be configured in a closed-circuit, local way, AND some evil government has tons of data, not just about what sites you browse, but about when you open your fucking fridge and where you drive in your car and how long you ran on your treadmill and when you turned your heater on, etc, etc.

Another funny example of an "advance" is streaming services for content. We used to have something way better: it was called torrenting the fucking music and movies for free. It took 1 minute and you could have a full HD copy of a movie. But it gets even worse: when you bought a DVD (or even a fucking VHS) you HAD that movie for life, it was your physical copy. When you torrented something, you had a local copy of it on your physical hard drive, which was in your possession. Now normaloids are content to pay tons of money for access to movies on a server they don't control, that can just take down whatever the fuck movies or music they want. JFL at thinking this is unambiguous progress just because of the amount available. So if I'm getting scammed by Spotify, now if my internet is down and I can't connect to some server 100 miles away, I can't play the music I'm paying for. WTF? Meanwhile, back in 2006 I could pull out my mp3 player (which also didn't send my data to the NSA because it was separate from my phone, another thing I'll talk about) and listen to my music on that. Normaloids are also blissfully unaware of how viciously large media companies fought to end torrenting. People who ran torrent sites literally had to go on the run to avoid prosecution by these assholes and people have been thrown into the Government Rape Camps (""Prisons"") for torrenting some faggot's 50 year old art project.

Also: cell phones in general. Are they some great prize? Cell phones are just shitty computers, and the most popular phones don't even allow you to login as some sort of root user that has actual control over the phone. And they send your shit to the NSA, and they allow mass, pathological harassment by tons of different entities (spammers and employers), they're notorious for planned obsolescence, and everything you can do on your phone can be done ten times more conveniently on a (sometimes a lot cheaper) laptop. JFL at phones. WTF is the fucking point of them except for getting harassed and spied on. WTF?

TL;DR Tech stuff goes backwards, sometimes a lot.

Technologically things have stagnated. Culturally and politically things have changed a lot.

Bookmarked, will read later.

You know, I'm not gonna lie, I'm definitely not going to read this fucking block of text; however, I do agree, sometimes it's merely an illusion and even at times an actual de-evolution, but stuff has obviously progressed technologically since the 20th century.

It's not too hard to degoogle and root your phone with iptables firewall.
Sure, but that's another thing: nice things sometimes exist, but they're NEVER by default. "Degoogling your phone" is basically just going back to 2005 when every phone was "Degoogled".

A bigger example of this is the internet as a vector for science progress. How do people actually get this supposed access? Well, they use sci-hub, which some lady in Kazakhstan had to start because Elsevier and JSTOR hoard the data and make you pay $40 for a taxpayer funded research article, and these guys are fucking wicked and vicious (they prosecuted Aaron Schwarz, causing his suicide). So the forces that are against this progress are really strong and the battle WILL be lost if we capitulate on it. When is it actually just going to be part of the system by default? Either the progress is outright turned back, not made, or has to constantly be fought for against really, really bad people.

You know, I'm not gonna lie, I'm definitely not going to read this fucking block of text; however, I do agree, sometimes it's merely an illusion and even at times an actual de-evolution, but stuff has obviously progressed technologically since the 20th century.

Yeah I got you, but

1) There's persistent underestimation of the illusions and de-evolutions
2) There's persistent overestimation of the progress.

This thread is more important than people will appreciate.

I think it is largely due to lack of fundamental research and the current social milieu and cultural rot. Everyone is obsessed with only short term gains. A significant portion of men have no stake in society, and this includes a lot of scientists, researchers, academics, etc. Public institutions are corrupt as hell and private sector will not risk short term profits for long term research.

A lot of our current projections about the economy are built on assumptions of infinite growth, fueled by technological advancements. With technological stagnation, falling birth rates, and increased social stratification, we are headed towards a global financial crisis.

But more importantly I don't give a shit either way, whether the status quo continues or if it will fall within my lifetime. I have no worthwhile investment in the future.

capitalism is bad for innovation, science and research, no one is willing to take a risk and develop some new never heard of technology, because it would just loose money.

they do the things that make them money, like creating the next iphone or the next graphics card for the next gen of games.

there is no risk in these production sites, and almost all companies on earth operate like this. doing the safe products.

most new inventions come from government help, government projects that got financed, like the internet.

because the gov doesnt have to make money, they can just research new stuff.

but its going to be less and less government science because most governments are being financially starved by said shitty multinational billion dollar companys that dont pay taxes, they do pay taxes, but not the 30% that you the worker have to pay, they pay like 2 % taxes.

so thes companies use the roads, internet, infrastructure, all that was being built buy the government at a loss.
they use all this to make astronomical amounts of money and then keep all of it for themselves whitout doing anything useful to society.
unless you count creating the iphone 10 or having a monopoly internet site where you can buy stuff as useful.

i dont... i think amazon should be seized and used for the people, like a postal service, and not so that one man can have 200 billion.

thats why we are stagnant --> capitalism

Sure, but that's another thing: nice things sometimes exist, but they're NEVER by default. "Degoogling your phone" is basically just going back to 2005 when every phone was "Degoogled".
2005 phones are not capable of anything close to todays hardware. These is what I get irl.
(For my personal OP5, rooted, partially google service disabled, firewalled)
Idle battery usage as low as 0.4 to 0.5% per hour with wifi and mobile data on.
Consistent 7 Mb/s wifi download.
Sub 0.5 second face unlock.

A bigger example of this is the internet as a vector for science progress. How do people actually get this supposed access? This is true. If you want papers you find it online for free or you pay or you ask the authors it's sad that sometimes it's not free.[/QUOTE]

you are fucking retarded. you remind me of that fucktard unabomber, who thought he was smart and shit, went anti-tech, thought he saw thru it all and wanted the world to wake up and shit.

you aint shit.

how the fuck u donwloaded a movie in 1 min back then? speed was low, and there were even data caps. i rmemebr like a decade ago i used up my landlords monthly data cap in like a few days and speed tutned to crap afterwards.

digital > physical. muuuuuuuuhhhhhh physical posession...... so overrated. you dont own shit. u think when u die ur fucking muuuuuuhhh eternal copy of movies and music mean shit? everyone lives in this world on borrowed time. so convenience is way more important. and digital is convenience.

with netflix for example, i can instantly watch without downloading. thousands of movies and tv shows. u expect me to do the same with torrenting? where do i even start? where do i even know what to download? with netflix i can skip thru and just click here and there and see what the show is roughly about. not possible with downloading.

spotify is the same. convenience. you fucking dipshit obviously dont understand shit.

yes, nasa had reusable rocket back then, but at wat cost? was it sustainable? i mean there are right now, fucking 5nm even 2nm semiconductor tech right fucking now, but nobody is mass producing them. why? coz cost. they need years to develop for ecnomics of scale. nasa's reusable rocket tech was tehnically possible but probably didnt even make financial sense so they stopped. spaceX figured out a way to make reusable rockets cheaper than one use.

2020 is way different than even 2010. nowadays everyones got smartphone these days. all stuffs revolve around it. public wifi is now common place. i rememebr back then around 2010, airports were dreaded experience to me coz i had to arrive early then there was nothing to do. now u get smartphone to spend time while waiting. same with every waiting situation these days like in clinic.

i dont know what kind of fucking shithole u live in that you dont feel the change over the past 10 years. you'te probably just retarded

you are so fucking retarded. ever heard of venture capitals?

you think soviet union was fucking innovative? they couldnt even fucking feed the people with bread. and ugly, uniform (but cheap to make) apartments everywhere. muuuuuuuuuuhh innovation!

Gorbachev was fucking shocked by some random supermarket in Texas when he visited the US. so many stuffs to buy, not even the best stores reserved for the elites in USSR had such a huge variety of stuffs. and you telling me capitalism had no innovation?

and yes, innovation cost money. and thats exacly why capitalism is better. coz innovation is risky. and capitalism rewards bets that turn out to be the right bet. while under socialism, no such mechnism exists, so you got lots of stupid shit that end up just wasting money and nothing productive come out, while good stuffs end up not rewarded anyways coz no capitalists are allowed there.

u fucking braindead cock sucking socialists really need to understand what is called "price discovery". no mechanism of price discovery is exactly why socialism always fail. whether its soviet style or western "liberal" /social democrat style.

Great post, honestly a good read, even when it’s not inceldom related.

It really does seem to be that there hasn’t been any great discovery as of now. Possibly because it’s taking time but I would more than likely say it’s due to world governments being a lot more interested in people’s lives than actual progress of a nation.

Genuinely speaking, we just live in the 90’s-00’s still with just revisions of the old product. Not saying that’s bad but in terms of actual invention, it’s severely lacking.

Incels are the creators of all breakthroughs/inventions.. but our society saw fit to relegate incels to NEETS or night janitors at best.

Meanwhile normies took over many corporations & most of the universities.

LMAO at your triggered halfwit consoomer coping, keep brainwashing yourself with propaganda you simpleton.

You failed to comprehend the difference between technology released to civilian to technology kept bi the elites and military.

1) I'm not anywhere close to his ideology. I actually want REAL technical progress, I just don't want it to be illusory. I've read Kazcynski and don't generally agree with his conclusions.
2) He really was a genius. He was (is) way, way more intelligent than both you or I. He wrote groundbreaking work on boundary functions in complex analysis. In terms of raw intelligence, he has us both beat by light years. However, I like to think I choose which propositions I believe as a function of evidence and not as a function of how much intellectual prowess a proponent of it has demonstrated in a different, unrelated field.

My post is as anti-"anti-tech" as is imaginable. It's advocating for REAL tech advancements instead of dumbass fake ones. You just didn't understand the gist of my post, and any idiot who quotes your stupid fucking diatribe thinking that I advocate for some kind of Kaczynski-ite asceticism is also stupid. There are definitely great tech advancements that are for real and not fake and gay. The internet is one, space travel is based (I literally say that NASA used to be based in my OP when they did moon landings, and that's supposed to be some anti-tech diatribe? WTF?) cars are kind of sort of based, mass transit is based, skyscrapers are based, advances in physical knowledge are based, finding the Higgs boson at giant particle accelerator was based, Wiles proving the modularity lifting theorem ergo FLT was based, Grisha Perelman proving the Poincare conjecture for 3-spheres using surgery theory was based, bounding the prime gap in 2014 was based, TempleOS is based, Linux is based, computers under certain conditions are based. These are all real things that aren't gay and cringe (cell phones, streaming, etc), and which are undoubtedly advances in knowledge or tech. I'm just pointing out the existence of a lot of pseudo-advancements.

even when it’s not inceldom related.

Yep just realized this should be moved.

Yep just realized this should be moved.
Ted's IQ is relatively to that of a genius most definitely around 160+, though this doesn't mean one's intellect makes them bulletproof, and judging by ted on the wikipedia page he was easily convinced by ideas/stances, one being that he had considered sex change but left with anger.

The person he was influenced by to lead a anti-tech route, which I find stupid considering tools he would have used for his remote living are technology in essence, was an christian anarchist, so that in itself isn't something an intellectual, especially Einstein or Tesla would ever consider, unless I'm wrong, but seriously, to consider anarchy after inventing technology just shows how easily subverted a person can become.

He also most definitely is the hermit type of person, based on his interaction with people, as well as, when he was living remote, since he never liked mingling with crowds, and much preferred peace alone.

Strong first post bro!

When IQcels post, that is why I keep on living.

Soy overload and also gulliblemaxxing hard.
Soy overload would be worshipping the Hidden Figures nigress and pretending it wasn't all white males from the south.
