The Official Horror Movie Thread

Oculus was a surprisingly good horror movie. Felt like an actual nightmare.

I've not yet watched this! I plan on doing this. Also, congrats for being the 100th poster ITT.

Hell, thanks man. And kudos to you for 20k
No need to thank me. I will watch Oculus tomorrow and post ITT my thoughts. And thanks! I could have gotten to 20k a long time ago had I not been away from this forum for months in the past.

movies with clowns arent scary tbh CMV

True, but they can be entertaining when done well - Clown 2014 and Killer Klowns From Outer Space 1988 are both good.

I like horror movies and watch them a lot.

The last decent Horror movie I watched was The Autopsy of Jane Doe. Watched Polaroid somewhere around last year and it was pretty terrible. Wanted to go see The Boy 2 because the first one was cool but COVID-19 got in the way of that
Maybe I will watch Dolls this weekend

Can’t remember the last time I watched a horror movie

So I haven't watched a slasher in literally years. This was mainly because of my nofap/nopornmaxxing but I watched season 9 of American Horror Story and it rekindled my love for slashers, that entire season is a throwback to 80s slashers and has a camp setting. Yesterday night I watched The Prowler 1981 for the first time ever and I enjoyed it. I am gonna watch My Bloody Valentine 1981 in a few minutes, I had watched the remake somewhere between 2009 and 2011 but I have never seen the original. Will post my thoughts here later.

I have watched a couple of horror movies during the past two or three nights. Here is the list. I'm mostly looking for slashers..

· The Prowler 1981
Decent slasher flick, the start had me really confused, I thought I was watching a 50s movie instead with the same name. Nothing really special, just remember not to take a fishing trip if you're the sheriff, otherwise all hell breaks loose in your town.

·
Maniac Cop 1988
Not really what I was looking for, which was slashers specifically for teenagers or young adults. This was more aimed at adults. Insane jawmogging by the villain. There are two sequels to this that I will watch in the future. Also, Bruce Campbell of The Evil Dead is here, too and in the first sequel. Decent watch.

· Prom Night 2008
So this was a remake of a 1980 horror movie of the same name, the original has Jamie Lee Curtis a.k.a. White Abed. I really liked this remake, in fact, I think I like it more than the original. The villain here was a chadlite, I kind of find it hard to believe the final girl here didn't want him to take her to poundtown, but, it's just a movie after all. BTW, the dude looks heaps better when he's rocking the buzzcut, he's literally incel-tier with long ass hair and a beard. Guess the "just get a haircut bro" isn't that much of a meme after all.

· Chain Letter 2009
Man, I enjoyed this one because it was very much like an urban legend: forward the chain letter, or else you die. While I enjoyed it, it doesn't really give you any answers. Still, I recommend watching it if you'd like to pass the time. This is directed at teenagers mostly, though, but it's a decent throwback if you were a teenager when this came out.

· Return to Sleepaway Camp 2008
So this is the fourth installment of the Sleepaway Camp series. The original came out in the early 1980s and it's pretty much legendary because of the twist ending, I won't give any spoilers, give it a watch yourself, I promise you, you won't see it coming. While this one was released in 2008, it had a really 80s feel to it. Originally slated for a 2003 release, it kept getting pushed back and back until half a decade passed. This is considered to be the first sequel to Sleepaway Camp, disregarding the first two sequels that came out in the 80s. Pretty enjoyable, I ended up rooting for literally nobody.

· Curtains 1983
This one is for a more mature audience as the creators had intended it. Not that the people behind it had much faith in it, because the director detached himself from the project when it was finished and it was panned by critics at the time of release. Nowadays it's got a cult status which is all the more reasons why critics don't mean shit and you gotta see for yourself if you like it or not. I specifically liked the ice rink scene. Sunny weather and snow and ice? An awesome mix.

· Jennifer's Body 2009
I remember when it came out, I was still in high school. Can't believe it took me 11 years to finally watch it, but I did. I enjoyed it. I liked the big budget on this one. Nothing groundbreaking or anything but apparently this was supposed to be a black comedy. I thought it was just a light horror with some comedic elements. Anyway, apparently this movie is seen as a feminist movie since 2018 which is fucking stupid to say the least. Why do people put a tag like that on a fucking movie? Just enjoy it for what it is and don't think too much about it.

Next on the list is Sleepaway Camp 3: Teenage Wasteland. It's from 1989. I have already seen the original, the first sequel and the last one, but not this one. Hopefully it will be schlocky, campy, etc. Will update this thread in a few more days when I watch more shit.

The aunt in Sleepaway Camp 1 (who was in one scene) was very creepy and disturbing.

She probably posts on r/inceltear, considering they encourage us, including yours truly, to trannymaxx. :lul:

I can relate to this, it's awful.
It also had jon stewart as the professor. There was a weird mix of actors in that movie, but it was still well done. What a coincidence you started watching it two days ago for the first time.
Late response, but I ended up watching The Faculty a few months ago, I didn't see the plot twist coming. Definitely enjoyable! Like I said, I enjoyed the pop punk soundtrack/s.
A new one? Might check it out. I remember watching the first one in theaters when I was like 7 and actually being scared with my brother.
Yep, but honestly it wasn't good... it was just meh. I'd rate it a 5. As for It Follows, I haven't watched it.. maybe in the future. Kinda turns me off knowing it's basically just about sex. Jfl.
There was a movie I watched as a little kid where a guy was possessed or sickened by something and he went day after day worse. The only scene I remember was were he was pulling all his teeth out into a bathtub.
I've been serching for this movie for a while now but I can't remember the name. Must be from the 90's cause I was a kid when I watched it. Maybe you can help me, would appreciate
I'm sorry but I don't have a clue.
I watched this a few months ago, also enjoyable.
I'm going to give a shout out to House at the End of the Street. This is a prominent example of a film of which my opinion seems to differ from the majority - it's one of my favourites I discovered on Netflix, yet it's been widely panned by critics. There's something about it that resonates for me - the protagonist is a tortured soul, and it's a fucked up background story. It also has one of the most terrifying opening scenes I've seen in any film.

The last film I watched was Hacked (2014). It has a similar vibe to Unfriended, which I enjoyed, although the footage is taken from a variety of laptop and phone cameras, rather than one long continuous shot. It was decent enough, would probably watch again.
I really liked House at The End of the Street. I watched it years ago. I recognized the protagonist from Bates Motel.. a series I need to finish. I think last time I watched it was in 2015. Two seasons left to go but I will start from the beginning. He plays Norman's half-brother.
-Insidious, good terror movie
I watched a bootleg of this in Pakistan with a relative, definitely a great movie. He bought it at some shop, it was my last night in Pakistan so we were gonna watch a horror movie together since I liked those. I remember another relative watching The Fog 2005 in the same period but not that night. Anyway I tagged along with him on his motorbike at night, then when he was buying it from a store, I was outside smoking and some transgender approaches me and asks me why I am smoking, that it isn't good for me because I am young, I was 15 at the time. Then my relative comes out and the transgender now asks him why he would let me smoke and my relative shrugs his shoulders and says "It's his life." I honestly was creeped out because I had never seen a transgender, let alone one at night. Hah. Good times.
any feminist ideal movie is a nightmare for me tbh, or movies about highschool. Torture relived
Then avoid Jennifer's Body at all costs. I watched it tonight and they now call it a feminist movie which wasn't the case back when it was released. Then it was marketed as a LGBT movie of some sorts.
Anyone seen doctor sleep? Sequel to The Shining. It has 7.5 on imdb, I'm planning to watch it some day tbh.
I will add this to my watchlist. Did you get a chance to watch it yet?

Based. It was a very underrated movie. It brings back a lot of nostalgia for me too because I saw it in the 8th grade when I was 13.

I kind of felt that way when watching Chain Letter and Jennifer's Body, both were released in 2009. Ahh, I forgot to mention it, but I recognized a song that was used there! It sounded so fucking familiar and turns out it's from an album released in 2008 that I discovered in 2010! Pretty cool. Haha. Have you watched any horror movies lately? And if not is there any you would recommend me?

I seen some of chain letter and jennnifer's body but didn't finish them. Chain letter was really good so I'm going to finish it soon. What album? Songs from around 2008 are better than today.
The latest horror movies I've seen were terrifier and terrifier 2. For some reason I haven't seen many high quality scary movies lately, I get more scared from playing scary video games these days. Are there any scary movies you liked recently?

Really, when did you start watching Chain Letter? The song was "Time" by Cute Is What We Aim For. But I would listen to the opener to that album called "Practice Makes Perfect" if I were you. I put the song in the spoiler for you. Isn't Terrifier that clown movie? Yes, there were some horror movies I watched in recent months that I truly liked and they actually creeped me out but they were Japanese so I don't know if you'd like to watch them. I watched AHS: 1984 and it rekindled my love for slashers so that's what I have been watching since three nights ago.

It turns out I haven't seen it after watching the trailer, but I already knew it was going to be about something that kills the main characters if they don't spread the chain letter. It looks good so I'll have to see it soon, and I have to finish listening to that album, nice song.

Yes, it's the clown one. It's not scary, but it's gory and weird. I haven't watched any japanese horror movies except Ringu, what are the scary ones you know? Old slasher movies scared me a lot when I was younger, but I don't know if they'll scare me today.

if it doesn't have sex-having teens getting murdered, I'm not interested

Ahhh, interesting bro, how did you know then? Maybe you heard about it back when it came out? I am glad you like the song, I think that song is the best off of that album but I also really like Do What You Do. The album is called Rotation and it's on Spotify. Listen to the entire album and then let me know what you think. Yes, I don't think western horror movies have the ability to scare me so I could watch Terrifier for the gore and weirdness. Slasher movies don't scare me either, but I love them since they got me into horror movies. Only supernatural horror movies can scare me. Mostly they just creep me out, though. I got a bunch of scary Japanese horror movies for you, man. They're awesome. You are in for a damn treat. Start with Ju-on: The Grudge 2002.

That's all what these 80s slashers are about. ;)

I figured out that's how the story would be if it's a scary movie with that title.

Thanks for telling me, I was about to search them on youtube. I'll let you know after I'm done listening.

I remember I saw the grudge too. I'll give ju-on a try and see if it scares me. Killer doll movies like chucky are what got me into horror movies, but others helped too like holloween, nightmare on elm street, and friday the 13th. They wouldn't scare me now but they'd bring back memories of when I was scared of them. Are there supernatural scary japanese movies you know?

High IQ.

Alright bro, looking forward to your opinion! Can't believe it's been ten years since I started listening to that record.

Well if you have seen The Grudge then watch Ju-on: The Grudge 2 instead because if you've seen The Grudge 2004, you've seen Ju-on: The Grudge. Lol, Chucky used to scare me so much when I was little, never saw the movie but I thought he was freaky looking and that was enough for me to burst in tears when I saw even a still of him. Halloween is what got me into horror movies at the age of 13. I still have special place in my heart for Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th. For the longest time, I avoided The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Hellraiser because they weren't like the first three, but more violent and brutal. I wanted something that was more aimed at teenagers like the first three movies do. But eventually, I started watching them and I liked them a lot! As for scary Japanese horror movies, yes, I got some titles for you. Start with Ju-on: The Grudge 2!

I will add this to my watchlist. Did you get a chance to watch it yet?
Ye I watched it, it was OK but didn't really leave a big impression on me, not a 7.5 imo more like 5-6 top.
Gonna watch the color out of space soon.

The Funhouse Is A Damn Masterpiece, Desu.
Basically is about these norms on a double date that go to the circus that's in town, they mess around while exploring this place up until they go into this darkride/ghost-train which gives them the brilliant idea to stay the night.
One thing leads to another which results the slasher of the film (Gunther The Funhouse Freak) strangling an escort after he pre-eject. His dad comes along and helps hide the body but he finds out that some cash has been stolen by the victims.
Then GunthER Goes On A Rampage With His Father To Get The Money Back.
