More than 200,000 cases of syphilis have been reported in the States for the first time in 70 years, with 207,000 diagnosed with the disease in 2022, a similar figure last seen in 1950. - 217 000. Since then, the incidence of the disease has been declining; in 2000, American doctors recorded only 31600 cases.
On top of that, medications for it are in short supply.
The increase in the number of infections in the US comes amid a lack of money for medical facilities and a rise in the spread of infection associated with increased drug use and unprotected sex, the publication said.
