My comments: Normies kill all the fish. Then not only are the fish dead, but all the wildlife that depends on the salmon runs and eating the salmon after they swim upstream and spawn.. all that wildlife dies or severely goes down in number. Normies have lots of other food they can eat, its not like we have a shortage of food in America that normies need to be mass murdering wildlife to eat it.

Ya, an interesting aspect is commercial fishing has practically no economic value to the state of California. The whole industry combined generates revenue like one small tech company. So we just don't need it anymore.

The way to balance things is you look at what is having a high environmental impact, but low economic value or low recreational value. And you start gradually phasing those things out.

Also freedom to do what some people want, often impacts other peoples freedom to do what they want. Like with hunting say a lot of people just want to enjoy the nature trails and such and see the wildlife. Whereas a small group of people wants to go and kill everything in the area. So whichever decision is made, someone can't do what they want.
