I'm sure this has been posted here several times but I'm interested to see what my fellow incels listen to. I'm normally a listener of prog rock but I love old fashioned country music just as well. Reminds me of the golden age of America. Pic related.

I have a good friend which loves Maiden. I've enjoyed their "Powerslave" album since it's very similar to prog metal; "Number of the Beast" and "Somewhere in Time" aren't bad either

Their newer albums are good prog metal aswell. Have you listened to Dance of death or empire in the clouds ?

I actually got my friend the Empire of the Clouds picture disc for his birthday a couple weeks ago. Listened to it myself; really cool concept about the R101, and the vinyl looks epic it comes in a sleeve that is a reproduction of the newspaper that came out announcing the crash.

Yeah the vinyl looks great, that and book of souls are the best tracks on the album. There had been some good metal released the past couple years.

Yeah metal is definitely a genre that is improving. I mean, I think it's the only genre that's continuing to make quality music at this point with hip-hop, country, and even rock going down the mainstream route.

Agreed. Bands like Iron maiden and megadeth have been making good albums for the past few decades, the metal genre is the only genre that is consistantly good.

I'd say prog rock is another genre which is doing great, but that is very underground and only appeals to a niche audience like me. I think that both metal and prog aren't necessarily mainstream, which is a good thing. Music doesn't need to be mainstream to sell anymore thanks to the internet.

Yeah, metal sells very well even on cd and vinyl. Sales have been rising even higher lately.

My favorite one is The court of the crimson king

Who the hell just dug this thread up from May

forgot neofolk: Death In June, Of The Wand And The Moon, Sol Invictus, Tenhi, Wardruna, Rome, Kiss The Anus Of A Black Cat, got more just gotta think.
Who the hell just dug this thread up from May

Ledgemund tagged me. that's how it got dug up.

My favorite album is probably Foo Fighter's debut album. Not only the album itself but all the early versions of the songs, besides and their live performances from 95-97.

I don't like their new stuff since they became Reddit: the band, though.

post-hc/noise rock/dirge rock - Die Kreuzen (started out as HC, sorta grunge too, favorite band after HS), No Trend, Flipper, United Mutation, Unsane, Melvins, White Pride (associated with it, kind of a joke NS act), Drunks With Guns, Skullflower, Butthole Surfers, Killdozer, Hammerhead, Tar, Kilslug, Bullets For Pussy, (thanks dude for that) God Bullies, Mighty Sphincter, Sun City Girls, (early) White Zombie, Sockeye, Culturcide, Pussy Galore, Nomeansno I'll think of more later.

This is most of what I listen to. Grew up listening to it around 13-15, rediscovered it at 20. I like everything in this list, but I haven't heard Mighty Sphincter and don't remember what Sockeye sounds like.

I'd suggest:

Karp (Mustaches Wild was the first full album that I listened to non-stop - similar to Melvins), Bastards (+ Janitor Joe, Casus Belli, Gnomes of Zürich, but none of them are quite as good - should have suggested these guys for the outsider Punk playlist, at least on their first singles before they became more fully Noise Rock - I'd add Monticello to my favorite albums as well), Shorty (Al Johnson + Mark Shippy from U.S. Maple), Milkmine, Cherubs, Zeni Geva, Cows, Crust (absolutely great, imagine God Bullies + Butthole Surfers), Ed Hall, Pain Teens, King Snake Roost, Lubricated Goat, Grong Grong, Bloodloss, Campingsex/Mutter , Rusted Shut, Vaz, Bastro, Gore, Brainbombs, Liimanarina, Radiopuhelimet, Kittens, godheadSilo, Johnboy, Cop Shoot Cop, Distorted Pony, Buzzov•en, Swans, Liquorball/Monoshock, Mama Tick, Mule, Slug, Bloodloss, feedtime, SexA, Terminal Cheesecake

brutal death metal: Devourment, Pestilectomy, Artery Eruption, Putrified J, Extermination Dismemberment, Putridity, Mortal Decay, Embrionic Death, Afterbirth, Abominable Putridity, Blasphemer (Ita), Epicardiectomy, Dysentery, Guttural Secrete, Disgorge (both US and Mex), Gorevent

Like this stuff a lot, just recently rediscovered my fondness for it. I'd add Brodequin, Dying Fetus, and 7H Target to my own list.

osdm: Incantation, Angelcorpse, Arghoslent, Cenotaph (Mex), The Chasm, Immolation, Bolt Thrower, Gorguts, Ossuary Insane, Chemical Disaster, Massacra, Masacre (Mex), Death Yell, Atomic Aggressor (leans on death/thrash), Vulcano, Sarcofago (though INRI is more proto-war metal, I prefer Laws Of Scourge), Master, Possessed, Death, Opprobrium, Atheist, Disciples Of Power (tech death/thrash/speed, from Canada), Suffocation, Malevolent Creation, Cryptopsy

All this stuff is great. I'm also big on Obituary, Infester, Pungent Stench, and Impetigo (you're from a Rust Belt town in the Midwest right? So were these guys.)

thrash: Metallica, Slayer, Voivod, Razor, Sacrifice, Hallows Eve, Megadeth, Artillery, Exodus, Sodom, Destruction, Protector (leans on death metal), Demolition Hammer, Morbid Saint, Evil Army, I'm not a HUUUGE thrash fan though

Haven't ventured too much into Thrash outside of the Big Four and a few others like Morbid Saint, Merciless, and Razor. Also like Forbidden, At War, and Gammacide.

black: Abigor, Blut Aus Nord, Antaeus, Mutiilation, Vlad Tepes, Master's Hammer, Venom, Mercyful Fate, Death SS, Spite Extreme Wing, Totenburg, Absurd, Burzum, Nokturnal Mortum, Hate Forest, Paysage D'Hiver, Rotting Christ, Necromantia, Legion Of Doom, Necromass, Bathory, Lugubrum, Rage Nucleaire (I'm a Lord Worm fanboy), Frangar, Infamous, Absentiae Lunae, Bekëth Nexëhmü, Striborg, Drowning The Light I'll think of more

You've already covered just about everything I'd include, except maybe the Blazebirth Hall stuff, Leviathan, Ruins of Beverast, Dark Tribe, Katharsis, Kriegsmaschine, Ad Hominem, Brown Jenkins, and Funeral Mist.

war black: Blasphemy, Deiphago, Nuclearhammer, Embrace Of Thorns (borderline death metal), Sarcofago - INRI album, Archgoat, Goatpenis, Seges Findere (was the founder of the fan page which would become the official page for that band), Bestial Raids, Bestial Warlust, Sadistik Exekution, Ride For Revenge

This stuff is all great. Also enjoy Order From Chaos, Revenge, and Impiety.

noise black: Harsh Immolation, TOMB, Sutekh Hexen, Black Mass Of Absu (know the guy personally), Enbililugugual, Gaskeri (shameless plug), Black Tribe, Gorduw (became more industrial/ambient and non-metal later on, I like that stuff too), Trepaneringsritualen, Four Armed Death Wheel, Halanihil, Chaos Cascade, Necrobutcher, Dead Raven Choir (sort of like noisy blackened folk music), Satanic Abortion, Reverorum Ib Malacht, Советская Милиция (borders on grindcore)

Only ever heard Enbilulugugal, Wold, and Dead Reptile Shrine.

industrial/power electronics/industrial metal: Zombies Under Stress, Laibach, Zaraza (has doom metal elements), Soulstorm, Malhavoc, Dead World, Einsturzende Neubauten, Genocide Organ, The Grey Wolves, Brandkommando, Bourbonese Qualk, Escuadron De La Muerte (Mex), Rasthof Dachau, Dissecting Table, NON, Front 242, Skinny Puppy, Esplendor Geometrico, SPK, Chrome (borders on noise rock/psych rock), Smell & Quim, Barbarossa Umtrunk, Stahlwerk 9, Satanismo Calibro 9, Dead Man's Hill, Browning Mummery, Muslimgauze, Severed Heads, Blackhouse, STROM.ec, Sigillium S that should do it

Used to listen to this stuff all the time and still do on occasion. Rosewater, Controlled Bleeding/Skin Chamber, G.G.F.H.., Allegory Chapel Ltd., Grunt, Test Dept., Voice Crack.

harsh noise: Macronympha, Skin Crime, Government Alpha, Merzbow, Guilty Connector, Vomir, Nihilistic Delusion (sometimes does depressive black metal, other works are harsh noise wall), JT Whitfield (he used to live here, gotta give props to a guy who actually made it), Arseterror (more shameless plugs), Aube, Thirdorgan, KK Null, Whitewater Orgasm, Torturing Nurse, Lasse Marhaug

Don't really have too much of this stuff. Mostly familiar with Hijokaidan and Incapacitants.

ambient/ritual ambient: Herbst9, Inade, Maeror Tri, Troum, Tehom, vidnaObmama, Cisfinitum, Lustmord, not a big ambient fan, just the basics.

I don't listen to a ton of this stuff either. Deutsch Nepal, Schloss Tegal, IRM, Brighter Death Now.

grindcore/goregrind: Napalm Death, Repulsion, Haemorrhage, Dead Infection, Last Days Of Humanity, Mincing Fury And Guttural Clamour Of Queer Decay, Catasexual Urge Motivation, Gutulax, Carnal Diafragma, Grog, Festercyst, The Day Everything Became Nothing, Meat Shits (borders on noisecore sometimes), Agoraphobic Nosebleed (only the stuff up til Altered States, last good album), Agathocles (despite their gay lyrics), Antigama, Spermswamp, Gut, Rupture I'll add more later.

Used to love this stuff as well. Brutal Truth, Carcass, Xysma, Nuclear Death (surprisingly good foid vocalist), Lymphatic Phlegm.

true noisecore: Genital Masticator, Anal Cunt (even their later stuff), Seven Minutes Of Nausea, Vomitoma (including gorenoise here), Jangle, Potabilizadora, Deche Charge (fuck them personally but musically ok) Anal Massaker, Sissy Spacek (gay name though, borders on industrial/musique concrete), WBI, Phyllomedusa (more gorenoise), Psychoneurosis, Deep Fried Embryo (sorta gore-ish), that's all I can think of atm (Arseterror started as gorenoise/noisecore)

I had a period of listening to this stuff, mostly what you've mentioned but also Stench of Corpse and Minch.

prog/rock/instrumental/technical rock/metal: Dysrhythmia, Behold The Arctopus, Amon Duul, Magma, Cluster (has electronic elements), Ash Ra Tempel, Rush, Yes, King Crimson, Primus (sort of related), Mr. Bungle, Fantomas, Orthrelm, Flying Luttenbachers (a little noisy), Happy Family, Cheer Accident (sorta noise rock, on my "to listen" listen list), Guapo, Fates Warning (metal), Voivod (also qualifies as proggy), Genesis (only the Peter Gabriel era), Frank Zappa and The Mothers Of Invention (kinda, sorta?), Pink Floyd (only Animals and before)

Big into this stuff just before and after starting college. MX-80 Sound, a lot of stuff out of Italy (Goblin, Area, Il Balletto di Bronzo, Museo Rosenbach, Cervello), Can, Franco Battiato, Faust, The Necks, Thinking Fellers Union Local 282, Pak, This Heat, The Work, Coroner (belongs under DM too), Don Cabellero, maybe Saccharine Trust around Surviving You, Always.

Cheer-Accident is great, this is probably their definitive album:

Could maybe include (proto-)Metalcore (obviously not the gay mall vampire shit) here as well: Deadguy, Kiss It Goodbye, Knut, Anodyne (Lifetime of Grey Skies might make it to my list of favorites), first DEP album, Starkweather, Acme, Craw, Dazzling Killmen, Gaza (wuss shitlib politics from the "fuck Bush" period, good albums), Cattlepress, Bloodlet.

alt-metal/grunge: Mudhoney, Prong, Helmet, Faith No More (both eras), Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Tad, Gruntruck, Skin Yard, Dinosaur Jr., Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots, L7 (yeah I enjoy SOME foid bands), that's all I can think of for now

Rediscovered how much I love this stuff:

Nirvana (Cobain was a cuck, but Bleach and the demos are very good), Willard (Godflesh + Tad), Gravel (like Mudhoney), Rein Sanction (like Dinosaur Jr.), Green Magnet School, first Season to Risk album, Fiddlehead, The God Machine, Tool, Life Sex and Death, Seersucker/Rock*A*Teens, Blunderbuss.

powerviolence/non-metallic grind: Intense Degree, Siege, Spazz, Lack Of Interest, Crossed Out, Suppression, Enemy Soil, Heresy, Yacopsae that's kind of it

Never really liked this stuff. Man Is the Bastard and Gasp are alright.

hc/punk: The Freeze, Circle Jerks, Discharge, Skrewdriver, The Meatmen, Minor Threat, The Necros, Negazione, Raw Power, The Germs, TSOL, Dead Kennedys (even though Jello is a patronizing little shit), Black Flag (fuck Rollins though, except for on My War), GISM, GBH, The Exploited, Agnostic Front, Bold, Born Against, Judge, Youth Of Today, Void, COC (yes they started as an HC punk band before going stoner/fried rock/metal), D.I, Fang (sort of noise rock-y), Disclose, Rosenfeld (look up their videos, Japanese HC punk with hair metal influences and nazi imagery), Gang Green, Dirty Rotten Imbeciles I'll think of more soon.

Never really got too much into Hardcore. I'd say Cro-Mags and Sheer Terror, plus more standard Metalcore like Snapcase, Acme, Earth Crisis, Integrity, and Vision of Disorder.

Amebix and Negative Approach too.

trad/heavy/doom: Black Sabbath (obviously), Iron Maiden, Grim Reaper, Judas Priest, Scorpions, Tygers Of Pan Tang, Raven, Angel Witch, Revelation, Trouble, Candlemass, Cathedral, Iron Man, Solitude Aeturnus, Venom (also considered an NWOBHM band), King Diamond, Lizzy Borden, Motley Crue, Twister Sister, Van Halen (Roth era only, fuck Van Hagar), Def Leppard (only the first two), Girlschool, Motorhead, Saint Vitus, The Obsessed, Blue Oyster Cult, more to come.

Black Hole is at the nexus of Italo-Prog and Doom Metal. Also W.A.S.P. and Metal Church.

first wave punk/new wave/goth: Talking Heads, Devo, Dead Boys, Ramones, Pere Ubu (also somewhat proggy), Tuxedomoon (kind of industrial), Human League, Cabaret Voltaire (industrial early on, new wave dance later on), Gene Loves Jezebel, Christian Death (had connections to the HC scene), Bauhaus, Joy Division, New Order, Depeche Mode, The Cure, The Smiths, Siousxie And The Banshees (I have a type ok?), The Sex Pistols/Public Image Ltd., Killing Joke, I think that will do for now.

Listened to almost nothing but Post-Punk when I was 16-17: Gang of Four, The Fall, The Birthday Party, Wire, The Comsat Angels, My Dad Is Dead, Bogshed, Disciplina Kicme, The Ex (Chapo-Left bugmen love this band, but there's no denying they're good), Honor Role, Savage Republic, Scritti Politti.

GYBE - F#A# Infinity

Nice, particularly the bolded.

Who the hell just dug this thread up from May

I could have made a new thread and reposted my list, but there's no reason to clog up the forum with redundancy. Better to build on what already exists.

some of those I forgot like Brodequin and Order From Chaos, my bad. I know Impetigo but they're good, just not a favorite.

I know Izedis personally, btw.
he and I did a split with my Arseterror project under his HNW moniker Static Goat.
forgot WASP and Metal Church, also, thank you.

Hybrid Theory and Meteora are both great albums from my childhood. They're also some of the few albums that I actually like all the tracks of.

Mighty Sphincter is prog-goth-HC. outsider band. kind of like Christian Death (they were friends) but their shtick was trying to make punks mad.
Steveggs and I got in a row with each other since we're close by, speaking of Minch. fucker does not like me.

Damn, interesting. You must actually know a lot of these guys personally. Only thing with Noise is that everyone who makes it is so prolific that it's impossible to keep up with everything.

Huh, really? A lot of people in the Noisecore/Grindcore scene seem like they'd be big into PC politics, but not really that guy. I assume the animosity stems from a different issue?

he's a 38 year old guy who hates people with Autism. he also lives with his parents, and is well liked compared to me. I'm the Nazbol anti-scene outsider being an asshole.
Izedis is cool but occasionally acts like a dick. eh, its noise, everyone in the scene has mental issues.

favorite albums are
the cure - pornography
vehemence - god was created
storm of the light's bane - dissection
monomania/teens of denial - car seat headrest
