they've been mostly profitless for ages, often running at a loss and kept afloat by speculator investment, so now that they're trying to make money they have no clue how to do it

absolutely, old forums were much better than Reddit

nowadays there's still a few forums, like this and Kiwi Farms, but troons and corporations have tried almost everything to get rid of KF. Many of the forums are much more laissez-faire than stilted normie platforms like Reddit, and people here can actually cut loose and chat about things. That's part of what people hate about KF, they can use the word 'nigger' lmao

it was also nice how people could make up websites about various obscure topics, interests, or niche communities, and there were plenty of charming old websites. now every major website looks boring and corpo, and retarded crap like TikTok and Snapchat exists just so that foids and normies can act like idiots

at least there are some decentralized alternatives like the fediverse, etc., but atm the internet is highly centralized and it's v corrosive
