Hungary going with its usual plan - backing the other side in a big European war

The way to get Hungary on board with Russia, is Russia can promise Hungary to give it back all the territories it lost. Eg.. if the Russians take over all of Ukraine, first off there is a Western province of Ukraine that was formerly part of Hungary. But what Hungary really wants in addition is the very large areas that are in today's Romania, Transylvania, that were part of the Kingdom of Hungary.

And why would they do that?

Its to link up with Russia's old Orthodox Christian friends of Serbia, Bulgaria and Greece they need to roll through Romania and to control it afterwards. And if they break off a lot of Romania to give it to Hungary, the remaining Romania is a lot smaller anyway. Russia could then accept a neutral Romania.

Russia has also wants Moldova back in Russia, which they know the Romanians are going to try to fight to stop.

The Romanians have been saying when the Russians were pushing on Mykolaiv province in Ukraine, they were going to send in the Romanian army if necessary to help.

This was earlier in the war a plan was to send the Romanian army into SW Ukraine to help defend, and send the Polish army into Western Ukraine if necessary.
