Hollywood did not make LOTR, Tolkien did. I hope you've read the books, because the films feel cheap in comparison- admittedly they could have been much worse.

You're right, it is very surprising the LOTR film trilogy did not make Frodo a gay black man and Gandalf a woman. The hobbit movies were awful though.
