Migrants, Somalis in particular, are fleeing the UK due to "knife crime, gun crime, drugs and Islamic extremism" and are returning to their countries of origin, according to a government report.

The report cited many testimonies including one Somali woman with 4 children who said she and her family left Somalia due to instability but are returning to Mogadishu because "it's safer than Birmingham".

The government is consulting with aid organisations to find ways to make the UK more hospitable to migrants claiming asylum and is pledging to increase the number of asylees to 650,000 a year.
