I'll try not to be too hard on consoles in this thread! I really don't hate consoles but like...

- These days consoles are more and more like restrictive PCs
- PCs have a much wider range of simple, fun games than they used to, which used to be the sort of games I would play on console

So I just don't see much point in buying a console anymore. That being said I love some classic consoles - I really want to own an Atari 2600!

As for mobile gaming (Android, iOS)... I mean... it's OK but on PC I have a bigger screen, more control methods, access to more games, etc. But it's probably good for on the go and if I was spending a long time on trains or at a workplace then I'd consider a good smartphone or maybe a Steam Deck or something.

Anyway, I just wanted to share my thoughts on that!

I was a console gamer for most of my life because I had a potato PC.
Since I have a good PC I mainly play on there and prefer it over console. But I can't play with mouse and keyboard and I'm too lazy too learn it, so I use a gamepad.

But I mainly play single player games anyway

I have always liked both. Regarding PC it seems devs are getting lazy, and using customers to do their beta testing. Look at all the major releases this year so far jfl, most have had major issues on PC. Seems like nowadays games are being ported from console, to PC. Used to be the other way round for the most part. Worrying trend.

But yeah the massive variety/ amount of games you can play on PC, and not to mention all the emulators for older consoles you can use is awesome. Plus, ofc mouse and keyboard. I cannot play shooters with a controller, feels too strange.

To be honest I think AAA games these days are mostly dreadful.

That being said maybe part of that is because I've already played lots of large scale games and have now mostly gone back to simple, "arcadey" titles

I like PC for 60fps but if console can run the same game just as good I’ll buy it there instead. PC has annoying troubleshooting issues that pop up from time to time and I’d rather pop in the disc and forget about tweaking with settings. Too bad they make you pay on console for online it’s outright robbery.

I think the systems had pros and cons. The 360 did have lightning fast updates and a great online service.

There are reasons it was so popular, after all!

Microsoft haven't been able to replicate that level of success again since!

PC is better of course but unfortunately getting very expensive. I miss when building a PC better than a console was slightly more expensive than a console but very worth it. Nowadays a PC that is better than a console (graphically and performance wise) can cost the double or triple of a PS5.

As someone who games both PC and console seriously on and off, I prefer the comfort and consistency of console gaming. PC gaming is usually high adrenaline and high stress for me. That's fine when I'm in a real war zone or doing extreme activities like parachuting or bungee jumping, but not when I'm relaxing and taking my leisure time to chill and play games.

Video games aren't inherently an activity for children. That's like saying watching movies are for children. They're just another form of entertainment media.

There are some video games that are more philosophical, thought-provoking, emotional, and story-rich than many movies out there.

I agree with this and do the same, I switch from PC and console gaming on and off.

I'm starting to miss PC gaming. I'll probably get a dedicated PC gaming soon to prepare myself going balls deep in CS2.

Mass Effect trilogy, Deux Ex series, Metal Gear Solid series, Witcher 3, Red Dead Redemption series, Half-life series, God of War remakes, Starcraft series, Bioshock series, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic series, and I'm sure there are others I've forgotten.

I guess there are lots of different kinds of gaming.

I'm a boomer so when I think of larger, more ambitious games I think back to things like Half-Life and Shenmue.

Then there are lots of fast-paced and more "arcadey" games that I like like CS GO, Sonic Adventure 2 and little indie games like Toree 3D

I guess for me I really like the creativity, variety and simple fun of it all

The main advantage is, you can save everything to an external hard drive.
( Games, patches, mods, software stuff that includes the drivers etc.. )
..And you can customize the PC to your own design. ( i got 2 winxp desktops + 1 win10 from a offline 2017 build still intact to this day, full of games )
- No shitty ratcode made by Indians trying to fuck up my drivers or anything else Jewsoft tells their slaves to do.

Coming back to the topic...

With a console ( i will use the PS3 as an example ) you simply can´t do that in a usual manner.
The only way to keep your save files + digital game safe in the case of the PS3, would be to copy everything to a 2nd, 3rd etc.. PS3 with a new hard drive, both systems require to have the same firmware for this to be accomplished + an ethernet cable.

- Otherwise you are stuck, and in constant risk of losing your shit! ( no pun intended )

Funny how the PS2, doesn´t have this problem.
Until now not a single Memory stick ( released by Sony, 8MB ) has EVER failed me, or corrupted any of games.
