I'm not sure if EDM can even be considered a genre. There are so many subgenres of EDM that sound completely different, from breakcore to future bass, from synthpop to dubstep. I guess it could be called a "supergenre"

Anyways here is my ranking of EDM genres:
1. dnb (feint, coma, maduk)
2. future bass (virtual riot, PSYQUI, meeesh)
3. synthpop (crystal castles, grimes)
4. dubstep (mt eden, fytch, tristam, disfigure)
5. melodic house (NCS shit)
6. everything else

I listen to alot of electronic music, but I tend to stay away from subgenre like electro swing, dubstop (new stuff), bigroom pretty much the "new normal" I like hard dance more and trance/vocal trance and a bit of minimal techno/dnb/dubstep/808. Mostly because I started to listen to hard dance in 2005-2010 when it was popular, before the generic piano melody anthems took over.

yes, trance music from the early 2000s to early 2010s was good. after that it was all downhill. its funny because when the term EDM was coined (i think by paul van dyk i'm not sure), that was when trance started to turn to crap. it started to become mainstream and all of these new comers (and foids) ruined the sound and productions in the years after.

i don't like DnB, dubstep, any kind of techno, or bass. it annoys the hell out of me or i'll straight up fall asleep.

I like trance tunes with a more progressive, uplifting, or melodic vibe. progressive house is good too. easy listening.

as far as I can tell, people that are ugly with mental illness tend to be drawn to edm especially trance or progressive house. because both of these genres have a sappy vibe to them. people that are bipolar tend to like melodies more. the ups and downs of melodies matches their brainwaves more. and one of the key characteristics of trance or progressive house is repetitiveness and melodies. melancholy is a common theme with edm in general especially with trance/progressive house.

anyhow, people who like instrumental music tend to be visuo-spatial types and people who like rap music or pop music tend to be verbal types. this is why you see so many asians listen to EDM. if you go to EDM events you can easily see that asians are way over-represented because we asians have higher visuo-spatial IQs relative to our verbal IQ.
