With AI and LLMs, I feel like the most difficult problem is more or less solved.
The inference and the hardware needs to get faster and cheaper and the models needs multimodality (to see, smell, feel) but the basic problem here is already solved.
The rest is just engineering.

So the only thing that remains is the mechanics.
Is it really so difficult to build a lightweight humanoid robot?
Again, I think keeping the balance is a big problem that is hard to solve with algorithms but easy with AI and sensors.
Battery life might be an issue but you could always carry around a backpack with backups and then have a leash with conductors in it.

So I really think all the main problems are more or less solved and it's already possible with today's knowledge, it just needs some engineering and finetuning.
Shouldn't cost more than 40k.

Basically, there are three aspects:
the hardware (mechanics), the software and keeping the balance.

We know how to build space rockets, so of course the mechanics have been figured out long ago.
We still need better materials, probably, to get a weight reduction etc, but shouldn't be too hard.

Boston Dynamics figured out long ago how to keep the balance, with AI it is much easier than back then, so this is also solved.

The only thing that was a huge headache until one year ago was the personality.
This was the only real showstopper, everything else were just smaller or bigger engineering problems that could be solved.
But now, the personality issue has been solved, too. AI is advancing rapidly, there are some rather small local models that are trading blows with ChatGPT. So, software/personality is now a engineering problem, not a fundamental one.

And there's a gigantic market demand for IRL robopussy so expect billions to flow into this over the next years.

A sexbot by definition can't reject people because if it did, noone would buy it and the company would go bankrupt.

If you want to try something as an experiment, pick a waifu (or 3d, whatever you like) and spend a day downloading as many pics as you can. For example, I do this with Mila Azul. Then, you don't flip through the pics in rapid succession like you do when looking at porn. Instead, whenever you have a thought about something, you look at one pic (just one!) and you imagine a conversation with her about it.

For example, I think my neighbors have a new set of wind chimes. I was just sitting here and realized I kept hearing bells. Instead of just having that thought to myself, I look at a picture of mila and imagine she's here and I tell her, "hey babe, do you hear that? What is that?"

I do that all the time. I do it a lot in bars (I have a privacy filter on my phone so nobody sitting next to me can see the screen). I do it when I play ARMA (I play a zombie mod like dayZ so it's 90% walking alone in the woods - I imagine I'm not alone). I mostly still need to focus on the picture to do it. But one key is that I don't just flip through 50 pics. I grab just one and have a conversation with it. Then next time it can be a different pic.

Anyway, there's some science behind this. There's a book titled "The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind" and tl;dr early humans would make idols like the pic below. The idols represented fathers/chiefs/loved ones. They would hear audible hallucinations when they focused on the idol. That's the author's theory. I'm attempting to harness that forgotten ability.
