Prior to ChatGPT's release, the future looked boring, with 0 chance of it ever going anywhere. But now there is a chance even if small, that humanity can bring about an unprecedented golden age. This is usually done to slow down competitors or to try and encourage governments to force a level playing field, so that nobody really has a competitive edge in the tech race towards wide scale commercial AI products that will most surely make it into the pockets, homes, and personal computers of everyone.

AI can be an extremely powerful tool to solve the most complex mathematical, physics, medicine or science problems or mysteries.
However, we have to master this tool all the time, otherwise this tool will turn against us and destroy us.
I highly doubt humankind will have the balls to keep AIs to obey us. Just look at how we deal with a basic critical issue like climate change. We're unable to take collective worldwide decisions, even when our species is in danger.
But I don't know if we will reach the Technological Singularity before climate change kills us massively. If we reach it, well the world will change so radically that nothing will ever be the same. AIs will sooner or later be able to learn all by themselves and solve technological and scientifical issues, like alien life in the Universe or not, like solving the Theory of Everything, like a cure for any disease, the nature of reality itself, and much more.
