To be honest, evolution is easy to understand but hard to explain, it's hard to explain how the natural selection of the best genes creates this tendency that species have for changing to adapt better, you would need to be very detailed and somewhat pacient and most schools are not like that.
I think the issue is that ultimately humans seek their own happiness. And they value their happiness higher than the truth.

Well this is a scientific "theory" and untill proven fact with hard evidence all theories remain theories. As I said humans build niches in that races best suited to an environment pass on their genes over time to the next generation. So short legs in mountanous regions, darker skin in sunny areas because the lite skinned die off more often etc etc etc.

I think the theory goes that waterborne animals came first. Not that I think any evolutionary biologist will claim possums evolved from whales (at least I hope I identified the images correctly). They'd likely claim both of them have a very far away common waterborne ancestor.This:

You read the picture wrong. The whale animal has evolved from the possum not the other way round. And its not a common ancestor thing. Whales have directly evolved from land borne mammalians

There are people who believe that this is the case. It makes some sense, because it's as if all of the energy towards our evolutionary pressures have gone into developing a powerful neocortex (it appears to be directed aka leaning towards intelligent design). We have basically no physical resilience or defences, compared to many animals in the world. Physically, we're pathetic compared to the animals closest to us (chimps), but intellectually, it really is like we're aliens when compared to every other animal.
