my half sister is like 7 years older than me so I don't feel much connection to her. for most of my life I've never even really talked to her, apart from the little trivial spats that siblings get in to. we're not on bad terms or anything but actually interacting with her is kind of awkward. I would feel really uncomfortable talking to her about anything private or confidential, the same way I would with anyone else that I'm vaguely acquainted with. we actually have pretty similar interests but I would still feel embarrassed talking to her about them
it's not really her fault. every now and then she asks about how things are going with my personal life or college or whatever and I'll reply amicably. but I just can't imagine ever wanting to talk to her about the type of personal stuff I share with close friends. it's almost like talking to a stranger, except they know all the intimate and shameful details about your early life and upbringing which makes it even more awkward. kind of makes me cringe just thinking about it. the idea of your siblings being people you can confide in comfortably just seems alien to me
