Story I was very dissapointed to learn what handsome means

I am not being native to english so the first time I heard of word handsome was when I was 13-16 years old and watching PUA youtubers. It wasn't used that often for me to get familiar with or to check whether it means what I think it means.

So naturally coming from the root hand I assumed handsome means to have strong hands and being knowledgable enough to do various physical jobs associated with it (plumbing, driving a tractor, bulldozer, truck, digging, woodworking, installing, working with hand instruments etc.)

I felt betrayed to learn it just means good looking
