At least if it's something you don't particularly enjoy. And by success I mean a significantly positive outcome.

I know this sounds a bit obvious. But I guess what is surprising me is just how true it is and how many things it applies to.

I suppose this is cost/benefit analysis.

For example a gf, really good friendships, reasonable employment, etc.

It's easier when you're younger I think. Education is easier to get into than work and people tend to be more keen to socialise.
 
I perceive my chance at success low with everything so I just rot.
 
Sorry if that first post was a bit rambling! I was night walking and that was my thought process at the time ^^
