The United States is over 34 trillion dollars in debt. We are borrowing money from China so we can build our military to defend ourselves from China. We can't afford to spend 2 trillion dollars a year on socialized healthcare.
Reddit commie Normtard: "bruh just uh decrease the military budget bro"
Around 65% of the US budget is spent on maintenance of equipment and salaries of US troops. You can't cut costs there without a decrease the in standard of living for US troops (which will hurt recruiting and re-enlistment numbers) cutting there would also be more dangerous since operating equipment such as helicopters aren't getting proper maintenance done on them which could lead to failure.
Another 20% is spent on procurement such as replacing an old piece of equipment and getting a new piece issued. You can't cut costs there, otherwise troops will be forced to use outdated equipment (such as an outdated body armor vest that's too heavy which causes spinal issues for infantry)
The remaining 15% is spent on research and development. That's the only logical area you could cut spending on. Issue is this would give other nations such as China an edge in being able to develop more advanced equipment than the USA.
There's other areas of the government sector to cut such as foreign aid. Did you know the US in the past 2 years has given over 75 billion dollars to Ukraine? What areas do you think the government should spend less money on so we can help out Americans more?

Budget Basics: National Defense
The United States spends more on defense than any other member of the G7.
