It's insane how ahead of its time this movie was. It perfectly captures what young men in the west today are going through, even though it was made before things like the internet (at least in accessible form for the average person) or smartphones. The MC even plans on going ER, which as far as I know didn't really happen at that time (serial killers and terrorists like Ted Kaczynski don't count, I'm talking about people who commit mass-murder as a direct result of their loneliness).
An interesting fact about the film's crew is that Robert de Niro (who plays Travis) actually asked out the blonde girl who played his love interest in the movie and she rejected him, even though he was chadlite in terms of looks and was a very succesful actor at the time.
I find it also interesting how Robert de Niro is starring in the new Joker movie since that has a very similar vibe going on (people seemed to be wearing 70s-style clothing in the trailer), maybe they did that on purpose.
