Nothing praising 'the joys of life'. Nothing 'life-affirming'. Nothing evoking enthusiasm contrary to the majority of art produced by humans.
No hint of athleticism or beauty found. ThIs is aesthetic of complete denial of [worldly] life and even innocent, 'godly' passions. Anti-breeding aesthetics.
Putting these images on billboards and shopping-malls would cause grave depression to females because this art denies everything they worship and deem worthy in life. This would be huge blow to female collective unconscious. It goes contrary to the core of their beings.

Medieval art is like that in general, catholic art turned more dramatic due to the improvement of painting techniques since the gothic period.

I still like the style used in orthodox churches, it's more christian for its seriousness.
