When people demand rights

On demanding certain rights. Is it not true that in the process of building a society, each co-operating individual has relinquished certain natural rights in exchange for societal rights? The right to self-defence using weapons is I think rightfully relinquished in favour of handing that job to trained specialists such as police and soldiers. In much the same way so too does one relinquish their rights to control their environment in favour of allowing a more competent group, such as government departments, make their environment better and more organised. If people really want to take the defence of their very life into their own hands then they are asking to receive no defence from others. You can't have both. Responsibility is as much a burden as a benefit, and you had better be sure you are equal to the burden before you ask to bear it. This is the crux of the issue, most people are not. In nature there is only one alpha per location, and you are not likely to be it. Even if you are, you are stepping over everyone else in the process. There will eventually be a bigger fish and it will eat you. This is why we have decided to push nature aside on the issue, to minimise suffering, to protect and support the most people, instead of placing every person's every faculty on their own heads. The government is not there to step aside and leave the people to the elements, they are there to interfere, they are there to improve the situation for the maximum amount of people. If you do not trust them to do this, we live in a democracy, go make the changes, don't just condemn the government and run out from under society's wing lest you fall to the plethora of dangers. This is why we try to make changes from where we are, but also why changes that reduce the cover we have are over all bad for everyone, even if they help a small number of people. Just because you are willing to tackle the elements does'n't mean you have the right to force everyone to face the storm. We've worked hard to build support systems that maximise well being for the maximum amount of people, and we are still working on it, just because it is'n't favouring your specific demands does'n't mean the whole thing is useless and/or tilted against you. The disadvantage you suffer from a societal system is almost certainly less than that you are open to suffering outside societies strictures, and if not, we are working on it, your inequality is not going to remain, help others to help you and you will eventually be on the up and up. Just because you are'n't being prioritised, does not mean you are being ignored. By all means ensure everyone is reminded of your inequality, but don't try and reduce other's equality to level the playing the field, raise the floor, don't lower the bar. This is relevant to gun control because not everyone is capable of wielding a weapon to defend themselves, that's why they need the police, and you have no right to remove that support. The same goes for social welfare, if you are advantaged you should be helping raise the floor instead of complaining that people are trying to take you off the pedestal. No system is in it's perfect form if it allows the successful to depart from the needy, that was the bullshit we tried to leave behind when we crawled out of the food chain, let's try to get away from it completely. A world built for dominance leaves the majority in a lesser state of wellbeing.
