Discussion Would intelligent aliens (ETs) have rights?

Would they be allowed to exist as humans do, or do you believe they would be treated as non-human animals? I've heard stories that ETs are either killed on site or taken into government facilities for testing and experimentation. But in the chance they weren't killed and/or imprisoned, would they be legally able to own property, vote, work among humans, collect income, etc?

Assuming the aliens are unarmed.

There may be peaceful aliens, neutral aliens, or hostile aliens. Or aliens that are dangerous but without malice. Why would a government kill peaceful aliens? To protect the belief that Earth is a special planet? With NASA being a govt funded organization, that theory doesn't make sense.

Another theory is that the govt (including the military) is only human, and we humans have no idea how to analyze the danger of the aliens, even unarmed. I mean, suppose they had organic abilities or invisible ways to destroy us? But if we show hostility first, by killing them we unofficially declare war on them, and they will know we are hostile.
Which means that, if they have a sense of violence, whether the violence is for protection or retaliation, they'll destroy us anyways.

If it's an individual or a small group maybe a scouting party, they'd get captured by the government of whatever country they're in and used for experimentation.

If they come in numbers greater than that, they're going to be powerful enough to subdue us humans, we'd be the ones at they're mercy. We wouldn't be able to impose laws upon them because they'd be technological superiors and they could easily destroy us if they felt like it.

Yes. On a serious note for anyone who cares, nuking Earth could mean a loss of resources that aren't found on many other planets. We could merely be a source of resources out of thousands of planets that have similar or the same resources.

This is assuming the aliens need resources at all - they may be 100% self-sufficient and merely visit for other reasons. If they are sadists, why destroy us immediately when they can slowly, creatively destroy us to feed their sadism and put their ideas to reality?

If they're not sadists, and even if they don't need us, why destroy a planet that may be unique for galaxies to come? Earth is like The Great Pyramids on a tour across the otherwise barren Sahara desert. I bet they have fun watching us destroy each other.

You only kill something that swiftly (nuking) if it's a threat and needs to be destroyed immediately, or if it's in the way. Looks like if aliens regularly orbit/visit Earth, we are not yet a threat or in their way. If they simply dislike us to the point of nuking, they can easily avoid us, we are just an annoying blip on their radar.

I have a strong suspicion they are (or are planning to) slowly hurting us in creative ways that we are completely oblivious to. They might be prejudice as fuck. They might control normie minds to bully ugly, low status men and worship attractive men and 5+/10 foids. They might control incel minds to make bad decisions.

Probably not. We can barely stand each other when we have different skin colors. I can't imagine what we'd do to something that looks nothing like us.

Probably not. We can barely stand each other when we have different skin colors. I can't imagine what we'd do to something that looks nothing like us.

We're talking intelligent species. An intelligent species would first observe Earth, a stupid alien would visit us and get killed because it was too stupid to prepare. But I doubt an alien species that has high space travel intelligence is only intelligent in that aspect.

Peaceful aliens visiting Earth is a bit of a paradox but what if humans allowed aliens to stay through an immense social revolution.
