The US Navy has so far shot them all down, not sure how much commercial ships the Houthis have hit though. No doubt the Iranians and co. are testing the US Navy's anti-missile defenses. The Pentagon is talking about air strikes and cruise missiles strikes on targets in Yemen.

Its not a big problem atm for the US, but you can see its another issue dividing out US resources and attention.

It's a resource war. Firing cheap ass, rotting dumb rockets (can't even call them missiles at this point) cost nothing for them. But how much the super advanced air defense system and their missiles cost? Remember that maintaining expensive warships and their system cost tons of money, you gotta have fuel cost and food for crews too. It's a giant W for Houthis

Their attacks force the US and other nations to deploy the expensive escorts for container ships. If they manage to blow up anything, it's simply a extra bonus for them.

A similar analog is the hamas rockets. These can barely hit anything and doesn't do much damage compared to other weapons but if they DO hit....

First worlders value their lives a lot and is willing to expel large amount of money just to ensure that "lucky hit" doesn't happen. Iron dome missiles cost way more than these "rockets" and force Israel to be on guard defending them

Ya I view ww3 is going to be a very long war of attrition on multiple fronts and proxy wars.

These missile attacks are hard to know which system to use to defend. Because the US does have the cheaper computer controlled machine gun system for hitting incoming stuff. But its risky not to fire the $1 million+ missiles first. Unless you have high confidence its an older crappy missile.

We've seen in Ukraine how the countries use swarms of missiles and drones on some attacks, with only some of the missiles being the high end ones.

they are just wasting them tons of money

Good point, Houthi’s just want to be a nuisance and disrupt Red Sea trade, which they have. We’re just exhausting our military supplies which will take years to replenish
