You probably weren't following this. I wasn't until right now. But from November 2022 to January 2023, Joe Biden left some classified government documents lying around at his house. To this you might say "Okay, so they should come after him like they came after Trump for doing the same thing, right?"

Not according to the appointed Special Counsel Robert Hur, who was put in charge of the investigation. And he just finished his investigation.

In summary? Biden shouldn't be charged with anything because he didn't mean to do these things. He just forgot.

If you aren't a fan of Biden, you might not like this ruling. Until you realize "Hold on, they're openly portraying him as doddering and incompetent. How can his party keep him as the nominee if that's the case? How can Biden, in the face of all this scrutiny, take a second term? Especially when once upon a time he said he wasn't going to seek a second term?"

Biden says "Look here, Tojo. I'm as sharp as the day you and the Hong Kong Phooeys kicked off your jungle nonsense in 'Nam."

But a lot can happen by the time the Democratic Convention starts. Maybe he drops out. Maybe the Democrats refuse to nominate him. What do you think happens next? It's not just jokes anymore about him stumbling on stairs and losing his train of thought in the middle of speeches. Now we've got Special Counsels saying "Bro is not there. How cognizant do you need to be to be President, really?"

That's exactly what's probably happening. The speculation is that the powers that be are no longer interested in propping him up, and they're trying to get moving to a new candidate.

It's easier to control a senile fuck though.

The Democrats would replace him if they had anybody to replace him with. But they just have incapable and hated diversity hires like cackling Kamala.

If he does step down, it probably has to be Kamala who takes his place as nominee. She would be the one to take his place as President if he stepped down from being President, so it's probably the same if he stepped down from being just the incumbent candidate.

As for nominees in the running, Dean Phillips is still around.

But if Dems could wave a wand and pick a different candidate, would they pick Gavin Newsom? He's still governor until November 2026. it would probably not be wise to just bail on California. They just had a recall election and there was no one, Democrat or Republican, that could beat him.

If Dems could wave a magic wand and just have their nominees of choice, how about 2020 candidates?

Lefties love Bernie like crack, and Biden having dementia would really bolster their base. Bernie fans hate Biden.

On the other hand, Bernie's star has been falling lately. For one, if we're talking about senility we have to hold Bernie to the same scrutiny. For two, despite how radically liberal Bernie is, he will not stand with Palestine. That took a few Bernie Bros out of the fight.

How about Warren? Would they stand with Elizabeth Warren? She's only in her 70s, she's probably got a term or two left in her.

Too senile to handle documents, but right in his mind to lead a country

I think Kamala would do worse than Biden. She has really bad unfavourables (and VPs are often fairly popular). She's like a "black" Hillary, except completely incompetent and can't even speak properly.

I love Bernie but the Democratic Party is corporate owned so he'd never get a chance. Likewise, Warren is too far "left". Yank politics is like a mixture of dynasty, celebrity and money. I don't see any of these candidates having the "name recognition" and known likability to be a proven upgrade on Biden. They'll probably parachute in Michelle Obama or something.

I think they're pretty fucked. The economy was terrible for the first 2 years of Biden and that's the main thing voters care about. Plus he's visibly senile. There's a reason they're desperately trying to get Trump thrown off the ballot. It would be funny if they did that and the Republicans replaced him with someone more popular (which is very do-able). It would also neuter the whole Democrat campaign which has been "Trump bad" and nothing else.

I don't think it is doable without Trump's living endorsement.

Trump is popular with Republican Primary voters but unpopular with the general population, which is often how it is. It was the same with Corbyn in the UK.

And anyone not named Trump will be popular with the general population, but unpopular with Republican Primary voters. That was the fear with DeSantis. Trump is guaranteed to win the nomination, but not so much the general. Whereas DeSantis would almost certainly never win a nomination against Trump, but probably stood a better chance against Biden.
