What you're describing is a phenomenon not endemic to internet forums, but common among all social groups that cluster and form into any kind of organized whole (organized, as in, consolidated into a group like a forum, as opposed to random posts scattered all across the globe/internet). This is simply the concept of reputation (the social currency where the more you have of it, the more valuable it gets, since you risk losing all of it all at once). It's as useful of a metric in gauging the value of in-group members on the internet as it is in real life.

Think of a competitive sports team that practices regularly and the members have clearly defined roles in the positions they play. Now imagine some random jabroni, who is 100% an unknown, coming in and, not only wanting to play in their league and season games, but calling shots on plays and acting like an interim team captain who understands the strengths and weaknesses of each team member.

The whole team would tell the newcomer to stay in his lane or GTFO. And all of this is reasonable and to be expected.

The point is that you have someone new - an outsider - coming in and joining your group.
