In other species such as flys who all share the same appearance they use other ways of signalling their genetic quality such as scent and pheromones. Good looks are just signals of ideal genetics, like how in peacocks the male's bright plumage signals strength and good qualities that can be past onto the next generation.
A species can't advance without some genetic markers, wether it be with your scent or with your appearance animals are constantly signalling their DNA's quality, wether that be for the better /in chad's case/ or the worse /in ours,/
We would either use other genetic markers like the quality of skin, the absense of wrinkles and hair to determine such good attributes. Otherwise resources and intelligence, so basically money
