There is actually a theory on why we have so few violent criminals in the west, in comparison to other countries like africa or india.
The basic idea is that we used to just execute hyper-violent people for hundreds of years and thus took them out of the gene-pool.
By doing that, we basically minimized in-fighting between groups lead by dark-triad psychopaths (like in the middle east) and effectively
established high-trust societies with a high amount of cooperation, which in turn enabled us to conquer the entire world.
A good example would be how the spanish conquered south america. They didn't deploy huge armies, they just riled up the different native factions
